hycoprisy

This copper was on his non-hands-free cell for quite some time. I pulled out my cell to take a photo…not text or talk on it. Is photographing and driving still legal?

This is America right?

Nothing much to bloge about on this music video. It’s just…good.

nostalgia

Not knowing if I would make it to this summer’s family reunion, I accidentally told my Dad I would put together some sort of short film or slideshow.  I’ve been wanting to collect all the old family photos, digitize and preserve them so that everyone could enjoy, print and save them. Ambitious? More like stupid- when I realized how daunting this could quickly become with a decent sized family. I’m moving forward nonetheless.  Where to start…when to stop? I’m thinking starting sometime when cameras first made their way West and stopping shortly after color began washing it’s way in to the film process.

There is something about looking through old photos…serenity, purpose, importance, innocence?… I’m not sure, but it’s something that probably won’t be there when our kids look at our thousands of monotonous, digital-delayed, fake-sepia-toned, keg-stand, cell-phone-res, facebook photos.

official

Well the move is official. I’m committed to Oregon for 2 years according to my license plate registration and the DMV.  Only 10 extra bones for the bike plates and the money goes to the Bicycle Transportation Alliance.  And remember my 3 E’s of biking: Environment, Exercise, and Economics. No emissions, burnin’ calories, and last time I checked..infinity miles per gallon.

inspiration?

I came across this amazing piece by Alex Roman awhile ago. After watching it I felt truly inspired. Once I saw that it was done by one person using basically the same software I use at work, I didn’t know if I was inspired or wanted to quit my job and cry. I did notice that the wind turbines were spinning the wrong direction which really ruined the whole film for me…

window seat

On a recent flight to Boise I just so happened to take a window seat on the right side of the plane. Actually the left, but it was the correct side for this view. I even made someone get up so I could access this open seat, initially feeling bad, but later realizing it was the correct move. After pondering this amazing view for several minutes and taking a few pics I scouted the plane to see who else was enjoying the beauty. To my surprise I did not see one other person looking out the window for the duration of the glory. There must of been some pretty fantastic foot massagers in the Sky Mall Magazine that day.  I often wonder at what age people lose interest in looking out airplane windows.

damien jurado

Was fortunate enough to see this guy at Mississippi Studios. One of the best venues for acoustics and on that particular night, the best crowd I’ve ever been a part of. Absolute silence during the sets.

blocking nerds

My buddy Theo emailed me last night to mock up a shirt for his volleyball team named “To Kill a Blocking Nerd.” I have no affiliation with this team, their name, or.. my friend.

what’s in a name?

If you’ve meticulously studied my URL you may be wondering if my name is Jos Harris or Josh Arris or even Jo Sharris (I wish). Unfortunately it’s just plain old Josh Harris. “Not so fast”, you may say. “You’re missing an ‘H’.” You see, that’s the clever part. I have combined the last letter of my first name with the first letter of my last name… Impressed? Thought so. Now at this point you may be thinking that I’m just trying to be cute but the real reason is this… Josh(ua) Harris is way more common than you may think. My parents might as well of named me John Smith, User Name, or BigBaller69$- because there is no way I can get any email addresses, urls, or login names, with this name. They’re all taken. Trust me, I’ve checked. My name is about as original as me living in Portland with a beard and liking beer, bikes, and music. Atleast I’m from Idaho and not Beaverton. … So anyway.. I’ve resorted to losing a letter out of my name for interweb purposes. Sometimes… I feel I’ve lost a little more than a letter.
